Geoff did Ash’s Hands On Course about 6-7 years ago when he was an Associate. However, he is now the principal of his own practice, along with his wife who is also a dentist. Geoff wanted to redo the Course treating a good friend of his called Matthew. Matthew was nervous and self-conscious of his smile. He was also a bruxist and was wearing his teeth down. He had missing lower first molars and tilted, mesially inclined second molars. There were posterior occlusal interferences, and he was exhibiting an AVOIDANCE pattern of tooth wear. In addition, there was also enamel loss palatally on the upper anterior teeth, due to erosion.
The treatment plan before the course included hygienist visits to improve the gum health, fillings for certain teeth, creation of an NTI appliance to deprogramme the facial muscles, occlusal equilibration using a leaf guage and taking of full records including a bite in centric relation for accurate wax ups at a new vertical dimension. Geoff did a great job in preparing the case under Ash’s guidance. On the Course, Geoff prepared the upper six anterior teeth for crowns and ¾ crowns for the premolars. The case was delivered with ideal occlusion i.e. multiple contacts when biting together, canine guidance and multiple contacts in protrusive guidance, as well as no non-working side interferences. Geoff found the whole experience enriching and he commented how the Course “is now in a different league” – this is testament to Ash’s commitment in offering an outstanding education for the dentist (like Geoff) who is progressive and wants to take his practice to another level.
